Envisioned as a green job creation machine that will generate 251 permanent jobs, and 275 construction jobs in coming years, the West Louisville Food Port is inching closer to reality, Mayor Greg Fischer told residents and business owners Saturday in a community meeting Saturday at Western Middle School.

“This is a $58 million project that will change the look and feel of Russell forever,” Fischer said in remarks to 62 people gathered inside the school auditorium on 22nd Street at Main Street, a few blocks from the 24-acre vacant site at 30th Street and Muhammad Ali Boulevard.

By this time next year, construction should be underway…
