Louisville Urban League Announces Major Gift to Louisville Sports and Learning Complex from James Graham Brown Foundation

Louisville, KY, November 26, 2018— On Monday, November 26 at 10AM, the Louisville Urban League hosted a press conference to announce a three million dollar gift to the Louisville Urban League’s Sports and Learning Complex from the James Graham Brown Foundation. The Foundation’s investment in the Sports and Learning Complex is in direct alignment with its vision to make Kentucky a national leader by cultivating progress and civic pride through philanthropic investments to promote the image of Kentucky and Louisville and the well-being of its citizens. The Louisville Urban League is honored to have their support and commitment to this project and to the revitalization of the West Louisville community.

The League is using the gift to challenge foundations, individuals, and corporations to help them secure an additional three million dollars in commitments before year end.  If the Louisville Urban League can secure this amount in gifts and/or pledges to match the James Graham Brown Foundation’s gift by December 31, local philanthropists Stephen Reily and his wife, Emily Bingham, will donate $250,000 as a bonus. Successful completion of the challenge will bring the total amount of funds raised for the project to over twenty million dollars since the right to develop the 24-acre Heritage West site was awarded to the Louisville Urban League in September of 2017.

The state-of-the-art, $35 million Louisville Urban League Sports and Learning Complex will be a keystone of West Louisville’s changing landscape. Along with Russell: A Place of Promise, the facility will make a lasting community, economic, youth development, and health and well-being impact for generations to come.

“The James Graham Brown Foundation is a leading foundation in our community.  It matters that they have shown us with this award that they are all in,” said Sadiqa N. Reynolds, President and CEO of the Louisville Urban League.
